Red Sox Hold Off Mets, 6–4, in Home Opener
The Red Sox spoiled the Mets’ home opener with a 6–4 victory, combining early offense with a strong outing on the mound.
Boston jumped ahead immediately when Jarren Duran led off the game with a home run, putting the Mets on their heels from the first pitch. The Red Sox added to their lead in the third inning with a three-run rally, highlighted by a two-run double from Trevor Story.
On the mound, Garrett Crochet was sharp, working 6⅔ innings while striking out 10. He consistently shut down rallies and kept the Mets from generating sustained offense.
New York stayed within striking distance thanks to solo home runs from Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo, but couldn’t quite get over the hump. Their best chance came in the bottom of the seventh, when they loaded the bases, only to come up empty and leave the tying run stranded.
The Mets continued to press late, but Boston’s bullpen held firm to secure the win.
Final: Red Sox 6, Mets 4
